

EDUCATION
Patrick Sutton is a talented Artist and Claymaker who has found his voice through art. In his journey as an artist, he has faced many challenges, including a brain tumor that rendered him speechless five years ago. Through his art, Patrick has been able to express himself and share his story with the world. His art is a reflection of his experiences, emotions, and passions.

Patrick has BA (Theatre Practice - Dartington College of Arts), MA (Screenwriting, IADT) and a PhD (Arts Practice - University of Limerick).
EXHIBITIONS
Patrick Sutton's art has been exhibited in various places across the country. In 2021, his exhibition 'Recovery' in Smock Alley Theatre 1662 featured 35 pieces all with the central theme of recovery.

In September 2024, Patrick will commence an artist residency in Bolus Head, Kerry as part of an Arts Council of Ireland funding opportunity.

PREVIOUS WORK
As a writer, Patrick has written Iscariot, Magdalen, Deeper, Notes for a Dying Mother, The Butte Bullet, Anaconda Ashes and Our Lady of the Rockies.

As a Director, he directed Waiting for Godot which played in Brazil and Smock Alley Theatre-1662 in 2016.
As Director of Communication with Confidence, he has had many private clients.
As a founding member of Smock Alley Alley-1662, he has guided the program through thick and thin-bringing back to the city, the oldest theatre in these lands.

He has recently retired having spent 30 years as Director of The Gaiety School of Acting-The National Theatre School of Ireland where he is incredibly proud of his legacy. He has Sarah Greene, Catherine Walker, Rory Nolan, Moe Dunford, Rex Ryan…and the list gets longer and longer….
He pioneered the Original Theatre program and working with Martin Maguire he directed 8 programs working with the very best American students have to offer.
